Great Ocean Road rides
It's hard not to fall in love with the magnificent Great Ocean Road on a bike. There are lots of fantastic rides for all levels, and every day a given ride can be different due to the incredible views and dynamic ocean and weather systems.
Rides typically leave at 7 or 8am each day from Lorne, Apollo Bay, Wye River, Fairhaven and Anglesea, and in Summer some groups may start earlier to reduce numbers in each group.
Example out and back rides are:
> Lorne - Cape Patton (56km - the most common GORC ride at 8am most days)
> Lorne - Apollo Bay (90km - 7am Saturday mornings)
> Wye River - Lorne (35km)
> Aireys Inlet - Kennett River (90km)
> Lorne - Sunnyside (70km)
Check out our Events page for some of the longer marquee rides we do throughout the year.

Gravel and MTB in the Otways
Off road gravel rides and mountain bike rides are also organised to help riders avoid Summer traffic.
The best MTB rides are at Forrest MTB, which has world class MTB tracks and has just expanded in 2023 with some new tracks.
We are exploring some great gravel rides out the back of all start points – from Torquay through to Apollo Bay.
Some of the great rides are:
> Apollo Bay-Seaview-Turtons-Wild Dog
> Lorne-Wye Track-Mount Sabine-Sharps
> Lorne-Erskine Falls-Normans-Wickham
Note: Gravel and MTB can be dangerous, so care should be taken and you should never ride alone.
riding safely
When riding on the Great Ocean Road, especially over the holiday periods, we recommend:
Get out and back early during the holiday periods when traffic is heavier than usual.
Keep groups to a manageable size for the safety of both riders and drivers so that traffic can pass. We recommend no more than 20 riders in a group and groups should start at least 5 mins apart
Because of the road conditions, we have a practice on the GOR, that if a car comes up behind, we go to single file, to help it pass. Riders on the right should fall in behind the rider on their left if it is safe to do so. Communicating your intention is critical.
When riding on the Surf Coast, remember we all have an opportunity to set a positive example for cycling in this beautiful part of the world. We urge everyone to be respectful of all road users: drivers, walkers, runners, cyclists and others.
